Unlocking the Potential of Advantage+: Simplify Your Campaigns

Meta ads

Advantage+ here, Advantage+ there, Advantage+ everywhere! If you’re managing ad campaigns on Meta, you’ll probably agree that navigating these “miracle” tools isn’t always straightforward. To make it easier, we’re breaking down what Advantage+ tools are, how they work, and sharing our experiences with them.

What Are Advantage+ Tools, and What’s Their Goal?

Meta’s Advantage+ suite is designed to simplify campaign management using advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence. In practice, this means less manual work and more reliance on algorithms. According to Meta, Advantage+ helps you achieve better results with less effort, reach new customers, and personalize their journey. Sounds great, right?

However, these tools have their downsides, such as limited optimization options, reduced control, and difficulty analyzing what’s working. Often, they operate like a “black box,” making it hard to pinpoint the exact elements driving success.

Types of Advantage+ Tools and Their Uses

👉 1. Advantage+ Campaigns

These campaigns optimize budgets, targeting, and content automatically. Unlike traditional campaigns, there are no ad sets. Although Meta briefly tested reintroducing ad sets, they disappeared from the platform again. Ads are delivered based on algorithms, combining acquisition and remarketing efforts.

We frequently use Advantage+ campaigns for smaller clients with limited budgets, where separating acquisition and remarketing isn’t feasible. For larger clients, we test them alongside manual campaigns and prioritize whichever performs better. Be cautious, though—Advantage+ campaigns can overlap with other campaigns, particularly in short-term remarketing scenarios.

👉 2. Advantage+ Campaign Budget

Instead of assigning budgets to individual ad sets, you set a single overall budget that Meta allocates dynamically. This works well when campaign targeting isn’t too diverse. However, if you’re combining different audiences, the algorithm may favor one over the other. To fully understand how each ad set performs, we recommend starting with manual budgets at the ad set level.

👉 3. Advantage+ Catalog Ads

Formerly known as dynamic ads, these automatically deliver relevant content based on user behavior and interests. You’ll need to choose whether the goal is acquisition or remarketing. This format is a staple for nearly all of our e-commerce clients.

👉 4. Advantage+ Content for Catalog

This tool adapts ad formats (like carousel ads or collections) and product descriptions to align with what users are most likely to respond to. It also allows you to add extra details, such as product labels, which can boost conversions.

👉 5. Advantage+ Audience Expansion

With this tool, your targeting isn’t limited to predefined groups. It helps you reach audiences you might not have considered. It’s ideal for broad targeting, but for specific remarketing campaigns (e.g., abandoned cart) or demographic-specific targeting, we suggest sticking with manual settings.

👉 6. Advantage+ Detailed Targeting

This feature broadens your audience beyond defined parameters if the system determines it could improve performance. For general campaigns, this is worth testing, but for niche audiences, manual targeting remains preferable.

👉 7. Advantage+ Placements

Previously known as automatic placements, this algorithm shows ads where they perform best. We use Advantage+ placements almost always, except when limiting ads to specific platforms, like Instagram.

👉 8. Advantage+ Creative Enhancements

Meta offers various content improvement features, some more useful than others. For instance, we often use catalog displays under ads, relevant comments, or adding links to subpages. However, we avoid features like overlays or aspect ratio changes to maintain creative control and preserve brand identity. Overlays, in particular, may conflict with your visual guidelines.

Our Takeaway: The Advantage+ Trade-Off

Advantage+ tools offer convenience and efficiency but require a trade-off in control and transparency. For small-scale campaigns, these tools can save time and deliver solid results. For larger campaigns, they’re best used as part of a broader strategy, supplemented by manual campaigns to ensure flexibility and control.
